Interlaken is located in the Bernese Oberland between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz (Inter-Laken; between Lakes), on an alluvial plain called "Bödeli". The two lakes are connected by the Aare river, which flows through Interlaken. Interlaken's local mountains are the Harder Kulm (1’322 m) in the north and the Heimwehfluh (660 m) in the south. But Interlaken is best known for the breathtaking mountain panorama of the Swiss Alps.
